Dear Friends,
I was 20 years old when my life was changed forever. It was a crisp, autumn morning. I had on my favorite sweater as I wanted to make a good impression. I arrived at the homestead where my future best friend was being cared for. I was told he slept in the barn so that’s where I headed. Covered in hay, he resembled a furry Oreo with a rich color of dark brown and pure white . He was only about 6 pounds and could fit him easily in my hands. As I picked up this baby English Springer Spaniel, he smelled of straw and farm. I held him close to my chest and he instantly grabbed a hold of my sweater and my heart. As he tugged tiny holes in my top, I knew I loved him right away. Little did I know that for the next 15 years, Jude and I would be inseparable. The love we shared was incomparable and unmatched. He understood me and I understood him. I felt so lucky to have found my little love.
2 years ago I started drawing portraits but as time went on I gravitated toward my “other jobs” and responsibilities life demanded.
After a long break, I have decided the best way I can honor my dear, little love and myself is to return to art. By creating, I can share with others who have the same love and appreciation for their dearest companions. The ones who have changed their lives and given them the love that only they can offer.
In creating these pieces, I promise to understand the respect and appreciation you have for your animals. I promise to do my best to give you the most loving representation of your sweet friends and will work with you so that you also feel involved in the process.
What Makes This Special- My favorite part of creating these portraits is observing the relationship between you and your pet. Each connection is so different and I love to see how you express your fondness when sharing photos and collaborating together. I create each piece specifically for every customer and value the input each person shares with me. This makes the process unique from the very start all the way until when your portrait is proudly hanging on your wall.
How It's Done- Every portrait is completed start to finish by hand. Each piece takes many hours to complete. I use professional grade pigment ink when drawing the subject and complete the background in high-quality watercolors. Each art piece is 11” by 14” on 400 series mixed media paper. While I add as much detail as I can in each piece, I do complete most by using a crosshatching technique. If you look closely you can see each line is methodically placed to create different levels of gradient.
Let's Get Started- Send me a picture of your pet today!
Sincerely ,
Jude (& Elle)
